butcher

Over generations our family has acquired expansive and historic farming and ranching land in the foothills of Southern Alberta around the town of Fort Macleod. We raise and feed cattle on this land or partner with local ranches. Our butcher-craft happens right in the middle of all of this at our facility in Fort Macleod, Alberta.

We own 10,000 acres of property all around the Old Man River. A strong mixed cattle herd and over 4,000 head of bison. We have a large feedlot capacity and grow feed crops on our farms. Our facility is EU certified and we have a lot of experience in selling domestically and internationally.

We empower our butchers to share their creativity. Finding niche markets that value craft and commitment to land, environment and best farming practises.

Our business is passion for what we do, and we work every day to ensure we never forget that.

Elements of the Wild Rose brand

WORLD RECOGNIZED QUALITY

Canada and Alberta are famous for our beef. Our Wild Rose brand is being recognized for it’s quality and taste in every country we deliver to and this is a sense of pride to our team.

FOOD SAFETY AND STANDARDS
Bring the farm to your fork while keeping up with your expectations of food safety and exacting standards.

CULTURES RECOGNIZED
We take pride in being a part of a global community. Cultural and religious differences need to be respected because everyone looks at food differently. We look at this as an opportunity to fulfill where others might not.

CUSTOMIZATION
From a great burger all the way to building a home, customization is no longer a luxury, but a customer demand. Personalizing is what we do from the products we make for you, down to the relationships we make.

CRAFT AND TRADITION
As craft butchers, we look to meat cut innovations every day, but we also don’t cut corners to get there. The old traditions are there for a reason and we like to make sure they guide our way.

EXPERIENCE
Experienced and knowledgeable partners are worth sticking with. That’s why young generations of family still lead our business and why our business seeks out those that love being butchers and providers.

BRING LOCAL TO THE WORLD
We love supporting our local butcher shops, but our customers need speed and efficiency and price that come from only larger facilities. We may think like a small butcher shop sometimes, but in the meat industry, we are a significant player with hundreds of knives at work daily and a state-of-the-art packing facility. We embrace our craft on a grand scale.

AIR SHIPPING
Meat is a global business with the supply chain clogged with other businesses. By shipping by air directly to the customer, we eliminate the need for all of those brokers and extra fees

GLOBAL REGULATIONS
Playing in the global sandbox means strict regulations. We are HAACP certified and Canadian Federally inspected at the highest standards in the world.

At Wild Rose Angus Beef, our customers look for ways to make a difference. They differentiate by offering more added-value and a better story to go along with a purchase. We all agree that butchery needs a good refresh and that there is a lot of innovation in food ahead of us. Our customers like to differentiate themselves in the market and we think that kind of challenge is something to care about.

The Alberta Pioneer Environment

Alberta will always be a land steeped in the traditions of the wild West. Stories of warring tribal factions over disputed hunting lands. Pioneers that came from around the globe to attempt to tame or even settle Alberta’s lawless spirit. History books filled with names of cowboy legends, whiskey-trade criminals, great chieftain leaders and the birth of the Northwest Mounted Police.

Much of that spirit still remains in Alberta and the land still unearths remnants of those days of roaming bison and early cattle ranches with nothing but grazing cattle between the sprawling golden fields of the prairies and the jagged peaks of the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Cowboys still work those same historic ranches and still use horses to get around, although a good pick-up truck is now man’s best friend. This is cattle country.

After all of these years however, families still come together in the same way and for the same reasons. Beef is still the king around here. And it’s the way we celebrate life and togetherness. It brings us back to the comfort of a home cooked meal and sends our minds back to childhood and family.

Angus Advantages

Even in Canada’s sometimes harsh calving season, the Angus cow consistently delivers a calf that thrives with little assistance.

The Angus mothering instinct is very strong, as is the calf’s instinct to get up and suck within the first few moments after birth.

Angus cows produce an abundance of milk right up to weaning.

Angus cattle have superior marbling ability, opening the door to improved beef tenderness.

Consumers recognize the name Angus and equate it with quality. They want Angus beef for its flavour, tenderness and marbling.

The dark skin and udders of Red and Black Angus cattle mean that sunburned udders are rarely a problem.

The Angus cow is renowned for her maternal traits, calving ease and ability to milk, producing a calf each year that more than exceeds half her body weight.

Angus thrive under all weather conditions with a minimum of maintenance and in all regions of Canada.

Both purebred and Angus-cross cattle demonstrate superior feed conversion, providing higher net returns on investment.

Angus are known for their “stayability” (a cow’s continuing ability to bear calves). It’s not unusual for 12-and 13-year-old Angus cows to be productive.

No dehorning is required with Angus cattle as they carry a highly heritable, natural polled gene.

What makes Alberta beef so good?

Alberta’s Beef is legendary for its quality the world over and this is the reason our family chose Southern Alberta for our operation, a generation ago. Clean air, lots of fresh water and more than enough space to grow feed and raise animals. Our land is nestled between the towering Canadian Rocky Mountains and the pan-flat plains with their abundance of grains and pulses that feed world markets. The foothills of Alberta are the birthplace of the Canadian oil and cattle industries, but are also pioneering in wind power and are well-known for possibly the best river fishing available anywhere. Our property is surrounded by natural grasslands and rolling hills. Very little else can grow in this area, which makes it perfect for cattle to roam freely. The super cold Winters ensure that we only use the hardiest herds such as the Angus breed. They thrive in our harsh seasonal weather and they love the sweeter taste of our grasses of the area.

Rancher Endorsed Program

Canadian Angus Rancher Endorsed is a certification program that offers quality assurances and endorsements for Canadian Angus genetics.

With the support of the Canadian Angus Association, Canadian Angus Rancher Endorsed offers confidence that the beef will exceed expectations.
